A former Virginia Governor, Jim Gilmore jumped into the GOP presidential race in late July 2015. Education, specifically opposition to Common Core curriculum, is a focus of this campaign. His candidacy never gained any traction. He was ridiculed after receiving just 12 votes in the Iowa caucuses. Gilmore official quit the race on February 12, 2016, just ahead of the South Carolina primary.
